Our Way of Making Design
Our Way of Making Design
Alutiiq artwork is alive! Paintings tell family stories and send messages. Circles are eyes that watch for prey. The color green calls upon spirits for assistance. Ingaruacirpet explores the Alutiiq arts, focusing on the ways graphic designs carry cultural information. Chapters on petroglyphs, incised drawings, painting and body art share hundreds of traditional images, investigate their history and meaning, and reveal connections in Alutiiq art. Alutiiq designs express an Alutiiq worldview that appears in everything from paintings to parkas.
