Atkuk Pattern
Atkuk Pattern
Before the introduction of Western clothing, Alutiiq/Sugpiaq people wore atkut-parkas. The snow falling parka is an iconic piece of Kodiak Alutiiq/Sugpiaq clothing. For hundreds of years, Alutiiq/Sugpiaq people have worn black garments, decorated with red bands and tufts of white fur. Now you can use this pattern to make your own fabric version.
With the pattern comes a list of needed equipment and supplies. Instructions on how to use this pattern can be found at alutiiqmuseum.org/publications
